We have had so many reasons this term to be proud of our students and what they are achieving in all sorts of arenas.   You will see these successes profiled in this newsletter.

Last week we held the Breens Speech competition, where the best of orators presented their speeches to the school and a panel of judges.   I was delighted to see the high standard of these speeches and the bravery that these children all exhibited as they took to the stage.   I would like to congratulate those students who were awarded with a placing on the day.  We were all particularly moved by Mahdiya and Tiberius who both spoke so beautifully about deeply personal and important issues.

Looking ahead to the next three weeks we have the following to look forward to:

Week 8

Cultural Festival, Wearable Arts and Visual Arts next week at Horncastle Arena.   Breens Kapa Haka and Pasifika groups will perform on Tuesday evening.

The Breens Rock Bands will be performing at a gig at the Papanui Youth Development Trust on Friday 13 September (flyer attached below).

School Disco - Saturday 14 September in our school hall from 7-9pm.   This is to assist our Breens Waterpolo team to head down to Dunedin next term and compete in the South Island Water Polo Competition. Tickets will be $5 each and they will be for pre-sale next Tuesday.  There will also be lollies and soft drinks for sale on the night. Your support would be greatly appreciated by our players and parents.

Week 9

Koru Games. Three days of competitive sport run by Selwyn Sports Trust. We will have sixty children involved each day.

Ladies Pamper Night - Saturday 21 September.  This sounds like lots of fun, a chance to get some friends together and have a girls night out!  (information in this newsletter)

Week 10

School Production - You're History (information in this newsletter)

We are on the countdown now and we are looking forward to starting to move into the new spaces at the end of the term.    The Hereora and Aoraki teams can't wait.  We are also really looking forward to also opening Komanawa - which will be a space for wellbeing programmes and our library.

As we head into the last three weeks, we are mindful of children who are starting to get tired and are struggling a wee bit more than usual to manage themselves.  Please help us out by ensuring your child gets to bed nice and early (and without a device/TV) and that they have plenty of good food on board as they arrive to school.   It makes our job here much easier when the children arrive rested, with full tummies and a big lunchbox of food for the day!

Best regards to you all.   Hope to see you all at "You're History."

Ngā mihi nui
