Cantamath
On Wednesday 21 August between 4-6pm, four Year 7 students and four Year 8 students took part in the CantaMaths competition at Wolfbrook. Below the students shared their thoughts on taking part in the competition.
“It was my first time participating in a Maths competition, so I felt excited but also nervous. Our score wasn’t very high, but it was a valuable experience. I learned that in a competition, accuracy isn't enough—speed is also very important, along with teamwork. I will make speed an important focus in my future maths studies.” —Yiting Su
“It was such an awesome opportunity, and we all learnt some valuable lessons. A huge thank you to Mr Josland for so many weekly practices and training, and Debbie for supporting us throughout the competition. It was a thrilling experience and I would definitely recommend doing it if you can.” -Eliza Lam 🥸
“I was a part of the Y8 team that participated in the 2024 Cantamath competition. The team got 60 points after half an hour of working on various questions. It was difficult to stay focused on the task at hand and not look at the runner who was delivering our answer to the judges. It was very fun and I would definitely recommend doing it if you ever get the chance.” -Sam M
“Breens participated in the 50th Cantamath Competition. I was a part of the Year 8 team - and it was such an awesome opportunity to participate in. We were given thirty minutes to answer twenty questions - and by the end of the time we had earned sixty points. A huge thank you to Mr Josland and Debbie for signing us up for and preparing us for this competition.” - Krishanu Das
“The Cantamath competition last Wednesday was an exciting and challenging experience. Eliza, James, Yiting, and I participated in this competition and the auditorium was filled with other year 7 students awaiting the questions. In preparation for the competition, all students participating had weekly training sessions with the wonderful Mr Josland. Thank you so much to Debbie (our lovely maths teacher) for supporting us throughout the duration of Cantamath. It was a great chance to enrich our maths skills, and I’m looking forward to taking part in it again.”
