Breens Intermediate School Music Roadshow

On Friday 30th of October the Breens Intermediate Music Roadshow took place.

50 students from the Orchestra, Chamber Group, Choir, Chorale and 3 Rock bands performed shows at 3 of our Kāhui Ako schools, Roydvale, Isleworth and Wairakei School with a trip to McDonalds for lunch.

The Orchestra conducted by Janet Simon performed Country Garden and New World Symphony. This was their first performance for the year and they did an excellent job.

The Chamber Group conducted by Janet Simon are a newly formed group this year of Seika on Cello, Namiko on Violin, Ryan on Piano and Lily on Flute. They performed 2 of the Four Seasons by Vivaldi - Winter and Autumn.

This year the Choir conducted by Maggie Alley have had all of their performances cancelled due to covid, so this was a great opportunity to perform. They sang the Albatross and Each of Us Has A Light. Both of these songs were sung in 2 part harmony.

The Chorale are a new group of students this year as our last Chorale were all year 8's. Under Maggie Alley's tuition they performed City of Stars.

At Breens Intermediate this year we are lucky enough to have 3 Rock Bands who have lessons with Rhys Bell. The first rock band to perform were the year 7 rock band called Branches of Steel. They played Drive by Incubus and Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.

The second rock band to perform were a year 8 rock band called Never Mind the Damage. This band have had some experience performing this year at the Papanui Youth Development Centre. Today they performed Dani California, American Idiot and Living on a Prayer.

The final rock band to perform were also a year 8 rock band called Undiscovered. This band have also performed a little this year and are busy preparing for the band quest in 2 weeks. They performed Take on Me and Song 2.

Thanks to Maggie Alley and Janet Simon for your fantastic work tutoring our students, they sounded fantastic. Harri, you did a fantastic job helping to set up and do sound tech so thank you. Thanks also to Robyn Ford for your supervision. Special thanks to James and Susie Watson for helping set up, take photos and supervise. We are looking forward to doing this again next year.
