Lice are not nice

Rebekah McLeod —

We would like to inform you that there have been several cases of head lice detected in our school. Whilst head lice are a common occurrence among school-aged children, it is important to address the issue promptly to prevent further spread.

What You Need to Do:

  1. Check Your Child’s Hair: Please thoroughly check your child’s hair for head lice and nits (lice eggs). Head lice are small, wingless insects about the size of a sesame seed, and nits are tiny yellow, tan, or brown dots before they hatch and white or clear shells after hatching.

  2. Treatment: If you find head lice or nits, please begin treatment immediately. There are several effective over-the-counter treatments available or you can come to the school office to receive a bottle of treatment. Follow the instructions carefully and remove all nits with a fine-toothed comb.

  3. Recheck and Retreat: It is important to recheck and retreat as necessary according to the product instructions to ensure that all lice and nits are completely eliminated.

  4. Preventative Measures: Encourage your child to avoid head-to-head contact with classmates and to not share personal items such as hats, combs, and hair accessories.

What the School is Doing:

  • Informing home if headlice is detected and sending students home to be treated.
  • Reminding students about the importance of not sharing personal items.
  • Ensuring that classrooms are cleaned appropriately.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Together, we can help prevent the spread of head lice and ensure a healthy school environment for all our students.
