Spotlight on: Kapa Haka
Kapa haka a place of songs, waiatas, and haka’s, and of course poi. In kapa haka we have training and in that training no one is to laugh at people only laugh with them, be ready at the right time, as in when you have the command to stand then you stand silently if you have the command to sit down you sit down silently and that is it.
Kapa haka has girl lines and boys lines and if you want to be at the front you gotta work for it. In work I mean put power into all that you do, know the words properly and not lip sync the words, know the actions amazingly also to show your Pukana all the time. When you are standing at the front as a leader you have to show you are a leader because if you don’t act like the leader you were when you were chosen then the people behind you will take your spot.
In kapa haka we help all our teammates we help them learn and help them grow to become a leader they want be. One of my personal favourite songs is Te wero because it is very calming and it just always gets stuck in my head! When we get into kapa haka we get straight into it with some warm up songs which are Maori Ora, hellejuah, Te aroha and whakataka.
