Garden to Table 🥕🥦🥔🧅

Lizzie Blackwell —

We are one of many kura across Aotearoa New Zealand who are teaching tamariki the life skills of gardening, harvesting, cooking and sharing fresh kai.

The Takahē syndicate have started Garden to Table on a Thursday morning at 9.00 am. In our first session, the rōpū mahinga kai/garden group were involved in harvesting lemon balm, rosemary and parsley. The rōpū kīhini/kitchen group then used the produce to make pakipaki (Māori bread), herbed butter and herb tea infusion, it was delicious! The garden team did some weeding, thinning of carrots and composting. In the end, everyone came together to share the kai. The tamariki absolutely loved the experience. There was so much learning going on from measuring and washing dishes, to knowing what is a weed and what we can eat. If you would like to be involved in this programme we still need more volunteers. Please contact Lizzie (lizzie.blackwell@brooklynprimary.school.nz) We also need watering cans, cups/mugs and teapots. If you can help out with these please send them to Lizzie.
