We have had an amazing term of learning and we are looking forward to seeing you at our Open Afternoon today. If you weren't able to make it, please contact your child's teacher and see if you can arrange another time to come in to see our learning in action. This term we have been exploring and teaching the newly refreshed maths and statistics curriculum. The achievement levels for each year group have been raised. I liken this to the high jump bar where each level has risen 10cm, making it that much harder to get over. We are going to hold a Parent Information evening on 28th June 6-7pm on the new maths and statistics curriculum. Please do book this date into your diaries.

Cross Country

We would like you to encourage your child to go for some runs over the holiday break, as we have our school cross country in week 2 of next term. Our school cross country will take place at Prince of Wales Park on Wednesday 7th May (postponement date 9th May). The first race will begin with the Year 3 girls at 1.00pm.  Tūī will compete in their own event at school.

Term 2 Inquiry- Planet Earth and Beyond

Next term we are all embarking on an inquiry with a science curriculum lens through our Planet Earth and beyond. The Takahē Syndicate have this week been visiting Space Place to support their learning around this. This will be the hook to get our tamariki engaged for our Term 2 Inquiry. The trip will involve a Planetarium show ‘We are Astronomers, a workshop ‘Explore the Solar System’ and time to explore the gallery. This trip will help our tamariki gain a better understanding of the concept of the solar system. The Tūī and Kiwi syndicates will be visiting Space Place next term. We are so fortunate to have access to this wonderful resource. Here are a few photos from Monday's Takahē trip, it was amazing.

Sickness

We are starting to see a rise in absences due to sickness. If your child is feeling unwell, with flu like symptoms, running nose, headaches, coughing etc  we ask that you keep them at home. Children have been sent to school and we are having to contact parents to come and collect them.

Vomiting/Diarrhoea

If your child has vomited and/or had diarrhoea, policy is that they are kept away from school for at least 48 hours.

Reporting an absence

Absences can be made via the HERO app; calling the school and leaving a message on the absence line or sending an email through to the office - office@brooklynprimary.school.nz

We would appreciate these absences being sent through before 8.55am.

NB: If your child is unwell for a number of days, an absence message MUST be sent in each morning to notify the school.

If you have emailed the teacher regarding the absence, please also cc the office into the message, as teachers may be away and/or a reliever in the class.

As always, we appreciate your help with this.
