Anzac Day

Kimberley Hobson —

Broomfield School commemorates New Zealanders killed in war and honours returned and serving servicemen and women.

We had many opportunities this year to commemorate and hour servicemen and women.

At the end of Term 1, Craig Palmer (our B.O.T Chair) visited Nīkau and Mātai classes to share his knowledge of war, his travels to Gallipoli, and his family history.

That same week James Drewery from the Amberley RSA visited with Ian Caldwell and Chris Gunn who both served in Vietnam as riflemen. We heard about why we commemorate Anzac Day and the struggles our service men and women go through when fighting for our country. The whole school was then part of a service organised by James, Ian and Chris.

Tī Kōuka and Mātai classes entered the Amberley Lions/RSA Anzac art competition. Tī Kōuka with their beautiful poppies and Mātai with the collaborative piece on the 28th Māori Battalion, which served in WW2.

Ka pai to Mātai for taking out the Senior Class first prize!

On Anzac Day Arai, Claudia, Lucy and Alex attended the dawn service at the Amberley Tin Shed and lay a wreath on behalf of our school.
