I Can't Yet, But...
Kōwhai tamariki learnt that even if you can't do something yet, that's okay as we all take time to learn and eventually we can achieve our goal.
Kōwhai akonga read the book Giraffe's can't Dance by Giles Andreae, where Gerald the giraffe loves to dance but the jungle animals make fun of him and make him feel useless. A friend encourages Gerald to try to dance by listening to a different song. Skeptical at first, Gerald finds his song and finds he can dance rather well.
Inspired by Gerald's self belief, determination and resilience Kōwhai tamariki thought about what they couldn't do today, but what they could learn and master this year by showing self belief and a 'can do' attitude. Some of Kōwhai's goals are doing wheelies, riding a bike, doing cartwheels and roller blading.
Perhaps we should all be inspired by Gerald and set ourselves a goal to achieve this year.
