Ten Years of Sport in North Canterbury Schools!

Jo Richards —

Anna, Hannah, Leith and Mitch represented Broomfield School with pride at the North Canterbury Sport Spectacular on Friday 30th October at the Mainpower Oval. Find out what they thought...

When we first arrived we went straight into the parade with the other schools, we carried the Broomfield banner and everyone cheered.

After that someone did a speech about how the sport coaching started, and then we cracked right into it with some games.  First we did a game like baseball but with a football, and we kicked it and ran to each spots.  If we made it to the end without other team catching us or getting back to the instructor, we would get 1 point.  If your team got out 3 times, you and your team would switch sides and be fielders.

After that we did another game with lily pads and we had to get across the swamp (aka the grass).  Every time we got across the swamp, we had to bring the lily pads back to the other side with us. Then they took one away every time we crossed the swamp, until the time ran out. Another games was dodge ball when you had to run through the middle without getting hit by the balls, when you got hit you waited to reset. The last game was football skills. At the end the instructors gave us a goodie bag with food and some toys then we went home.

"My favourite part of the day was when we played the football/baseball game because we got to run around so much and it was fun!" (Leith)

"I really enjoyed the parading because you got to represent your school and it made me feel proud." (Anna)

"I quite liked the sports activities, especially the team building one because I got to ride on Anna’s back." (Hannah).
