The Mighty Oak - Ti Kouka saving saplings

pauline white —

As part of our Science exploring plants and growth, we discovered oak tree saplings in the school house garden.

After studying different types of seed dispersal, we think that acorns (which are the seeds of oak trees) drop and roll. Luckily for us, some dropped and rolled into the school house garden bed where they sprouted and grew into young saplings. We rescued many into pots - lots of us have taken them home. Some remain in the classroom and will come home in the next few days. We hope they will grow into adult trees just as beautiful as our mighty Broomfield Oak trees - but we found out that they won't produce acorns for 20 years!
