World Vision Youth Conference
Read all about the amazing time Fletcher, Emma, Conall and Stella had at the recent World Vision Youth Conference!
On Thursday the 4th of May, Emma, Stella, Conall and Fletcher went to the World Vision Youth Conference for 2023 with Mrs. Mckenzie. It was held at the La Vida Life Church in Christchurch. We had front-row seats and we also received a World Vision bag with information slips about the conference. The main point of the day was to understand more about social injustice, global development and team leadership.
The lead speakers came on stage and welcomed everybody to the World Vision Youth Conference for 2023. They started off by talking about our world and some of the problems within it. They shared some stats such as only 1% of the world's water is drinkable. We also had to team up with another school to create the tallest domino tower, and then the longest train of dominos to represent that if one person does something then others will follow.
In the next session, they talked about the bystander effect and what that was. They then showed us a video about being a leader but also the first follower is hard, but once that first follower comes a flow of people are bound to come sooner or later, you just have to be patient. They had a guest speaker called Aigagalefili Fepuleái-Tapuái to come and speak. She talked about always holding onto your dreams, what you are fighting for and never giving up. Youth Ambassador Emily also came on and partly talked about her travels in Malawi.
At lunch, Emma and Fletcher wrote letters to some MPs as part of a World Vision protest about working conditions that lots of products shipped into NZ are made from.
The last session of the day was focused on how to get people interested in the 40-Hour Challenge and how to organise that as well as determining what kind of leader you are.
We all took a lot out of the day and all thoroughly enjoyed it.
Keep an eye out for more information on the 40-Hour Challenge which will be coming throughout the next few weeks.
