ANZAC POEM

The Soldiers were hiding in

trenches, scared.

The ANZAC Soldiers march

and march all day long.

Gifts and letters arrive

each month for Soldiers.

Firing bullets shoot across the

sky at every soldier one by one.

Soldiers fighting for their

Home, freedom, family and country.

Poppies spread all around

the place on 25th of April

Soldiers dodging every bullet

so they can survive the War.

Family and friends so happy to

see their family member return home.

They fought for our future.

They fought for our freedom.

They fought for our rights.

They fought for our safety.

Running through battlefields, shots ringing in their ears for us.

Slept through cold, harsh nights in the dark trenches for us.

Marched in horrible conditions for us.

Bleeding every day, fighting through the pain for us.

Died for us.

Soldiers leaving their homes.

The battle was hard and painful at Gallipoli.

They were marching to go to training and were sprinting in the horrible rain.

The soldiers were fighting for freedom, home and country.

Without any hesitation they were running and about to go to fight.

The sandy beach was blowing up and it was very harsh there.

The army team were really proud of themselves.

The war started in 1914, on the 28th July.

A Soldier’s War

One surprising, shiny day in 1914, a young boy called George got asked to go to war.

George thought it would be an upcoming adventure he could be excited for.

So George said yes to the offer and already felt like a soldier.

On the day it was training George got his bag, said bye to his parents and went out the door to the ship that was travelling to Egypt.

On the ship he couldn’t wait to train for war and what he was going to be learning.

One year later on the 25th of April 1915, George travelled to Gallipoli to start the battle.

At the end of that harsh war New Zealand won, but many people sadly passed away. After all that fighting George and the other Allies were drenched.

All of the New Zealanders made a holiday called ANZAC day for families and friends of their beloved soldiers who went to war.

George’s Soldier Diary

(28-07-1914)

A drenching wet day.

I think that this is going to be a great big adventurous adventure.

I’m really excited.

I really miss my family.

Soon we’re going marching to the hills.

I really hope I survive. I think I'll have to dodge a lot of bullets.

Today we’re going to attack the nasty Turkish soldiers.

It’s going to be harsh. It’s not such a fun journey.

There are poppies everywhere. Soon we’re getting our parcels from New Zealand.

There’s heaps and heaps of countries here.

We’re going in our trenches to eat Bully Beef.
