Junior Performance Choir

Sam Allan —

Junior Performance Choir (More commonly referred to as JPC) is a non-auditioned junior choir that rehearses once a week during timetabled classes as a part of the Performance Music subject choice.

There is a wide range of experience in the choir and is often enjoyed for its fun atmosphere, enjoyable music, and great community.

This year we participated in 2 choral concerts both of which had exciting new music. The first choral concert we did was where we performed 2 pieces. The first piece was Riversong, a soft lovely piece detailing the beauty of nature. The second piece we did was Minoi Minoi Minoi, a lively Samoan peace.

The second choral concert we did was one we performed 3 pieces for. The first was For The Trumpet Shall Sound, an enthusiastic biblical piece describing the trumpets sounding to fulfill the promise of god. This was my favorite piece of the year as the baritones had a lot of fun with how good the harmony we sang sounded in the performance venue (St Mary’s Pro Cathedral), as the venue provided some fantastic echoing. The second piece was Angels Carol, a peaceful Christmas song. For this song I feel we could have been a bit more prepared on the lyrics but I loved how great it sounded when our confidence came through! We finished our portion of the concert with Memories, a popular pop song by Maroon 5. This was a really fun piece for us to sing, and it will be exciting to see year 10 Jacob Craw conduct it in our end of year concert!

Overall I have loved being a part of this Choir for the last two years and feel grateful for the fun experiences I have had. I would like to extend a massive thank you to our conductor, Miss Ensor. Her fun style of conducting has not only created an incredibly enjoyable choir experience for everyone, but has gotten our choir sounding amazing! I wish to wish next year's JPC members the best of luck in the choir next year!
