EPro8 Competition Success

Tony Tang —

The EPro8 Challenge is an inter-school science and engineering competition. It is designed to give students a fun and rewarding introduction to science and engineering. At each event, teams compete with other schools in our area to try and finish a variety of interesting challenges.

With only a week's worth of notice, a total of 32 students signed up to be part of the EPro8 Competition, highlighting the drive for excellence in the fields of Engineering and Science at Burnside High School.

These students were split into 8 teams of 4 to participate in the EPro8 competition. The heats were held at both Shirley Boys and Hilmorton High Schools in May. Five of these teams progressed into the Grand Finals which were held by Holmes Solution Engineering on the 30th and 31st of May.

Burnside High School had four teams in the Junior Competition finals which represented a third of the total teams in the finals. The team of William Li Chen, Elissa Piao, Aleck Li, and Rohan Gala, tied for first place with (put the school). The other three teams placed 4th, 5th, and 6th with only a small difference of points preventing them from getting onto the podium.

While the senior team did not achieve such success, they exemplified our Burnside High School Values of Being respectful, Having Pride, and Striving to Succeed.

Overall, each team gained useful life skills including problem-solving skills, teamwork skills, and persistence.
