PTA Newsletter September 2021

PTA contact —

The Burnside PTA is delighted to be able to help Burnside High School's nationally recognised, award winning female choir, Bel Canto.

The talented Bel Canto singers have been using the same uniform for many years and the PTA have given $8,000 to help Bel Canto purchase a new modern, but classical look uniform. Unfortunately their most recent event, the national Big Sing Finale, which was due to be held here in Christchurch in August, was cancelled due to lockdown. We look forward to seeing the girls in their new outfits in upcoming performances.

At the last AGM & PTA meeting  we considered all funding applications and decided which to fund this year.

These applications are prepared by members of the school faculty on behalf of the students and teachers. The PTA reviews these applications and allocates the funds to those school projects which meet our funding criteria which focus on promoting and supporting school activities and groups.

Please find attached  the funding 2021 projects.

PTA Meetings: Unfortunately our September meeting needed to be cancelled due to the recent lockdown and level changes. We were excited to have Dame Sue Bagshaw confirmed to speak at that meeting and therefore disappointed to have missed this. We are very fortunate that Dame Sue has agreed to come to one of our meetings next year to speak, details of dates to follow. Our final meeting of this year will be held on Monday 22nd November 2021 and we will be joined by Emma Davison, the Assistant Head of Faculty, Health and Physical Education. Emma will present information on the Relationships and Sexuality programmes at Burnside.

The PTA would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the teachers and all staff at Burnside for their ongoing support of our students and their whanau, especially keeping everything running so smoothly during lockdown.

PTA Treasurer position

Tonia Konstantinopoulou has resigned as Treasurer of the PTA after four years and now we are looking for someone to take over this role. The role includes working with a wonderful, supportive committee to be a link between the school, parents and whanau.

What does the Treasurer’s role involve?

Experience with Xero is helpful but not essential, training can be provided. The role includes the following:

  • Pay suppliers of the uniform shop
  • Refund the school for the projects approved in the funding meetings
  • Regularly reconcile accounts transactions with bank transactions
  • Prepare the six monthly GST Return
  • Prepare the Financial reports for the period between PTA meetings and present them at the meetings to be approved

If you are interested or have any questions about any aspect of the role, please do not hesitate to contact us at pta.burnside@gmail.com
