11 Travel & Tourism/ 12 Tourism Hanmer Field trip

Donna Lee —

Our aim for the day was to explore different aspects of the New Zealand tourism industry; students gained insight on tourism businesses, work roles and the diverse range of attractions and activities on offer within the ever-popular resort town of Hanmer.

The day commenced with an adrenaline pumping jet boat ride with the Hanmer Attractions adventure company. Students had a blast zapping along the Waiau River. It was fast, there were plenty of spins and inevitably a few of us got a bit wet! The scenery was beautiful and the drivers shared lots of good information along the way. This activity certainly delivered!

“Power through the spectacular Waiau River canyon with spins and thrills galore on this action-packed Hanmer Springs Jet Boat ride. Experience travelling across just centimetres of water and rotating through a 360-degree spin as your qualified and professional driver navigates you through narrow gorges and over white-water rapids. A must-do activity suited to both adventure-seekers and families alike”.              Hanmer Springs Attractions

We then headed into Hanmer township and students had the opportunity to explore and have some lunch.

Lastly, it was finally time to relax at Hanmer's premier attraction - the alpine thermal pools and spa resort. Students enjoyed the hydro slide and super bowl rides, along with a hot pool soak! These activities certainly helped to warm everyone up in the notably cooler alpine climate!

We look forward to delving deeper in to the Destination New Zealand topic in Term Three!

Thanks to all the staff and students involved in making this such a memorable adventure.
