Allenvale's first Cross Country

Rachaelle Stidder —

Building tuakana teina relationships with Allenvale our local special education school.

On Wednesday 16th June, Allenvale School hosted it's first cross country event for their students at Edgar Mackintosh Park. 15 Burnside High School students went along to support the Allenvale students as they zipped around the muddy course. The students, kaiako (teachers) and support staff all had a blast! There were smiles and laughter on the day from the whānau (families) watching, the akonga (students) and the community members that happened to be visiting the park at the time of the event.

After the students ran at the park we all then got the opportunity to head to Allenvale school to support even more students to run their cross country back on school grounds. Obstacles were added for even more challenge as they ran the windy course around the school playground. The excitement from the students was visible, with many students running the course more than once because they loved it so much!

Many people were involved in the successful running of this event and we thank everyone for offering such a wonderful opportunity to our Burnside High School students. They got so much out of this day and learned that we live in a diverse community and how there are many things we can all be doing to support others learning as we go.

Thank you to everyone that supported this amazing event. It was a privilege to be part of this day.
