A great weekend of Competition at the World Scholars Cup at Avonside Girls High School. Our talented students competed in academic challenges across six disciplines in addition to debating and collaborative writing. Students worked individually as well as in their 14 teams of three. The winning Senior individual was Grady Kenix 13CHL who slotted the competition in before he flew on Saturday with the NZ team to the international Mathematics Olympiad in Norway.
Another highly ranked Senior Individual was Katie Horton 10WMNS. Although by age Katie is a Junior she competed as a Senior due to her older team mates. She placed in every aspect of the competition in the Senior Division. The top Senior team were Tim Fisher-Taylor, James O'Connor and Nick Zheng all from 13SRT.Runner up in the Senior Teams competition were Lucia Guo 12SMPP, Ameya Raut 12SGLS and our World Scholars Cup club organizer and chief Olivia Wang 12WHGM.The Top Senior debater was Sam Allen 10WZHY, Top Junior debater was Priya Bartlett 10 SWGJ with Top Senior Writer Olivia Wang.Haasini Mantena 11WLWI won a special award for her academic test results!!Top performing junior was Minjun Cho 9WJCN.I am incredibly grateful to our Year 13 Academic Leaders who gave their time to help judge debates late into Friday night.Helpers were Janvi Puri, Kerziah Head, Ian Han and Eric Huang. It was exciting to be able to compete in this event after the recent cancellations.
