Weightlifting Success
Congratulations to Alfie Trafford, Sahel Mohammadi, Alex Dubery, Tom Hoang, Callum Maule, Penny Yang, and Steven Ye who traveled to Paraparaumu to compete at the WPNZ National Powerlifting Championships last weekend.
National records were broken by four Burnside High School students at this event.
Steven Ye in the under 62kg male division broke the National deadlift record with a lift of 148kg (nearly two and a half times his body weight).
Callum Maule in the under 77kg male class broke 3 records including the squat record with165kg, the deadlift record with 190kg and the total record with 455kg.
Penny Yang in the under 72kg female division also broke 3 National records with a 107kg squat, a 117kg deadlift and a 276 total.
Alfie Trafford dominated the under 105kg male division breaking all divisional records with a total of 497kg, a 180kg squat, a 107kg bench press and a huge 210kg deadlift!
This was the first opportunity Burnside students have had to travel and compete at a large scale lifting event and all had a great time with most placing in the top three in their division and achieving personal best lifts.
All are to be commended for outstanding results and for displaying great sportsmanship and support for one another at this event.
