Sally Stanley-Boden —

2017 has been another busy and productive year in the Library.

Incredible as it sounds, we have had well over 200,000 people, including 2000 classes, visit the Library during this year.  Most people come in to study and learn but the Library is also used for meetings, recreational reading, gaming and as a cosy social space to relax with friends.

Alongside many new books, magazines and DVDs, additions to the Library collection this year included our new Audiobook collection and ebook app which students can use online at any time.   Audiobooks allow students to read and listen at the same time and include reading in other parts of daily life – listen to a book while mowing the lawns or walking the dog.  The easy-to-use eBook app gives students over 2000 titles to choose from - no excuses for the slide into 'summer  brain'!

Another online resource available to students anywhere/anytime is our new research database - JStor.  This digital resource has access to over 10 million journal articles, books and primary source material and is very easy to use.

Many thanks to our fabulous volunteers:

  • Student Librarian teams who work each interval and lunchtimes - ably organised and trained by their team leaders and Mrs Boardman.
  • Volunteer Parents and Grandparents who come in daily to shelve books - around 18,000 books this year!
  • Library prefects who supervise Bag store and the Learning Lab.  This invaluable help from the community enables the Library Staff to work with students and complete other tasks.

Thanks to all the students who use and enjoy the Library  from Ms Stanley-Boden, Mrs Boardman, Mrs Grinter and Mrs Wilson.
