Burnside High School managed to enter the majority of the Canterbury Secondary Schools' Equestrian competitions in 2017.

On 22 February, the Show Jumping event was held at McLeans Island and we fielded a composite team with Marian College. Ellie Honeybone, Max Shanks, Abby Sinclair and Olivia Schupbach (from Marian College) represented this team. Most of the riders had clear rounds but the ground conditions were very difficult for all schools.

Max Shanks, an accomplished Games rider, represented Burnside High School in the
Games competition this year as a composite rider.

The final event of the year was the One Day Horse Trial, again at McLeans Island, on Saturday 26 August. The team was originally Max Shanks, Thurza Anderson, Stephanie Horridge and Ellie Honeybone. Unfortunately, one of the horses was lame the day before the competition and we were offered another rider. The riders rode well with each rider being strong in one or more discipline.
