Blood Pressure Rising

Matthew Easterbrook —

In Term one, Year 13 Biology students had the privilege of listening to Dr Peter Olsen from the Ara Institute of Technology

Dr Olsen is a Sports Science, Nutrition and Health expert who has published research on the effects of watching sport on the heart rate and blood pressure of individuals. He gave an informative and entertaining presentation on how to conduct scientific research and provided students with information from his studies.

This was very relevant for students as they are beginning to conduct their own investigations into the effect of body position and exercise on blood pressure. Dr Olsen also spent some time talking to individual students about their investigations and provided useful tips to ensure they are conducting an appropriate investigation.

The Year 13 Biology students and teachers would like to express their thanks to Dr Olsen for taking the time to share his expertise. The Biology teachers are looking forward to seeing the students investigations develop over the next few weeks.
