Leading through adversity

Jon Land —

Burnside Leaders have continued with their fine work in Term One and have risen to the challenges of hybrid learning.

This term, every form class in Years 9-11 has elected Arts, Sport, Values and Social leaders. These students play a vital role in modelling fine behaviour, organising class events and encouraging participation. Samuel O'Sullivan from digital technologies has joined the teacher leadership team and we thank him for his fresh ideas and digital capabilities.

In Term 1 our Arts leaders held a photographic competition and we have enjoyed the excellent submissions. The winning photograph from 11NCGR is pictured below. Congratulations to all those who took part.

Sports Leaders produced a sports quiz for Form time entertainment and our Social leaders have been organising end of term shared lunches and making sure that birthdays are properly acknowledged and celebrated. In Term 2 the leaders will be running a paper plane competition, creating Form class playlists for Spotify and developing their own Curriculum Vitae which will reflect their leadership successes and achievements.

We hope that our Leaders have enjoyed the opportunity to take responsibilities in their Form Classes and will gain valuable skills from their work.
