Burnside Leaders and our "very special culture"

Jon Land —

The Burnside Leaders enjoyed a presentation from Mr Brian Hays a former Teacher, Dean and member of the school's Board who is now back working at Burnside after nearly 30 years of Educational work in Canterbury.

Mr Hayes spoke of the very special culture that he sees at our school and the role our students play in creating the Burnside environment that we all enjoy. He particularly noted the respect that is shown to the wide variety of cultures that are a part of our school’s fabric and the way our Burnside values are reflected in the behaviour he sees in the classroom. We know that the Burnside Leaders play an important part in creating and maintaining a culture of mutual respect and promoting excellence. Mr Hayes noted that “it’s cool to be successful at Burnside” and that “Students care for each other and care for their school.” He gave our Leaders a challenge to maintain and grow the culture that makes him so proud to be a part of our educational community. “As the leaders in the school you simply have to ensure its continuing success and keep the our great culture to the fore. Students are proud to say they are from Burnside High School, and it feels great to have been a part of it.”

We must also thank our Leaders for the great work they did in maintaining communication with class mates during the lock down and their planning for Form Class activities as we returned to school. We wish all our Leaders a well-deserved break and look forward to working with them in Term 3.
