Year 13 Biology Students Visit Orana Park

Matthew Easterbrook —

Seeing gorillas and other primates up close was a highlight for Year 13 Biology students when they visited Orana Park earlier this Term.

The students had the opportunity to observe several primate species before spending time in the newly built Zoo School as part of the Human Evolution topic. Under the guidance of Zoo School staff, students were shown the major anatomical differences between modern humans and other primates as well as trends in evolution as our distance ancestors evolved into modern humans. The Zoo School has an extensive range of replica skulls that students could handle and make measurements from to discover these trends. It was very educational trip for all involved and Burnside High School would like to thank the Orana Park Zoo School staff for their support.
