Touch

Burnside High School —

In Term 1, the Girls Senior A Touch team competed at the Canterbury Secondary Schools Championships and the South Island Secondary Schools Championships.

The Canterbury Secondary Schools Champs were played at Sheldon Park, Christchurch on Saturday 20 February. Our Girls Senior A Touch team placed 3rd at this tournament.  The team came 7th at the South Island Secondary Schools Championships, again played at Sheldon Park, on Saturday 20 March.

This was coach Benn Seebeck's first year with the team, and his dedication to the  girls was rewarded with the team winning the School Sport Canterbury Super Touch competition, beating Christchurch Girls in the final, in Term 4.

Unfortunately the girls were unable to test their skills at the next level, as the 2021 NZ Secondary Schools Championship were cancelled due to the latest Covid Delta outbreak.

The Junior Boys and Girls teams played in the Schools Sport Canterbury Junior competition in both Term 1 and 4. This was a rebuild year for both teams, with the majority of the team being Year 9's. They are looking forward to further developing their skills next year and being the Year 10's in the Junior Grade (Year 9 & 10s).

Thank you to all the coaches who have made this season a success for our touch teams - Benn Seebeck (Senior Girls), Jay Williams (Junior Boys - Term 4), Ahmad Salimi (Junior Boys - Term 1), Callum Fisken (Junior Boys - Term 1), Manu Mamaru-O'Regan (Junior Girls) and Tegan Johnson (Junior Girls) for all your hard work and support of the teams.  A big thank you to Carla Phillips, Teacher in Charge/Senior Girls Manager, for all your behind the scenes organisation - the season certainly wouldn't run as smoothly without you!
