Year 13 Graduation & Prizegiving 2023

Held at the Christchurch Town Hall 26th October

The evening was to recognise the achievements of the graduating class of 2023.

Premier Awards

Dux

Johnny Lawrey has completed an outstanding five years at Burnside High School and this year has achieved top grades across all of his subjects. His strengths are in Mathematics, Digital Technologies and Sciences. He has also been an Academic Leader in 2023 and has competed in numerous academic competitions with outstanding results.

Johnny will study Software Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Canterbury in 2024.

Proxime Accessit

Devin Lin is a student who has been described as confident and forthright, and who is passionate about his learning. He is widely respected for the level of academic capability he possesses and is generous with both his time and expertise to share his knowledge.

Devin's strengths are also in Mathematics, Digital Technologies and Sciences and he is looking to continue his education at the University of Canterbury in 2024.


General Excellence

There are two General Excellence Awards for our students.

Jiayi Zheng has earned top placings in a diverse range of subjects this year including Art History, Painting, Physics and Chemistry. As well as a strong academic, she has various leadership roles and is a member of our Bel Canto choir and is involved in the school Archery team. Jiayi is travelling to Dunedin to attend Otago University in 2024 where she will studying Health Sciences First Year then onto Dentistry.

Annabelle Brownsword is a talented student with a strong work ethic. She has consistently achieved a high level across her whole time at this school and she participates in Tae Kwon Do. Her strengths lie across a range of subject areas including Mathematics and Science and she will continue her education at the University of Canterbury next year in Mathematics and Computer Science.
