Dance Showcase

On August 13th, we once again held our annual Dance Showcase. With the theme "Iconic" many of the dances came from some of the most famous performances in history.

Dance NZ Made

This year, we hosted the regionals for the Dance NZ Made competition in the Aurora Centre in August. This allowed many more of our dance students to take part in the workshops that ran during the days alongside the competitors.
We had a very successful competition with multiple solo, duo and team winners. The 'Not Forget' team was also selected for Nationals, along with several of its members as solo and duo dancers.

At the nationals, the students took home many amazing awards, including Annelise Tan and Natalie Wu crowned as National Duo/Trio Champions, Maia Jefferson winning National Solo Champion, and the 'Not Forget' team winning Overall National Team Champions.

NZCAF Hip Hop

The Hip Hip Crew 'Defiant' also competed in the regional NZCAF Hip Hop Championship in August. They won both 1st place in the Mega Crew category and the award from Most Promising Crew. Excitingly, this also meant they qualified for the Nationals.

The nationals, pushed back to November were also very successful. The crew took out the overall title in the finals. Four of the members have never danced outside of school and never competed before, so this was a particularly special and massive achievement for them and the school.

NZ Golden Ticket

Early in the year, 7 dance students were nominated to represent the school at the New Zealand Golden Ticket Dance Awards. This new competition recognises talented school students and allows them the chance to win $1000 towards furthering and supporting their dance training. The competition held in Palmerston North was delayed to November and Molly Brown was the only one able to attend, but she did us proud. Out of 140 students from around NZ, Molly was fortunate enough to win one of ten $1000 prizes, learning 8 routines over the course of the day.
