Burnsides SMP Jazz is an Auditioned program that runs every Wednesday after school. It is full of aspiring young musicians who got to showcase their talents at multiple performances and competitions thanks to Mr Hood and Mr Oswin.

 All members gather to rehearse and play various different jazz tunes in small combos.

There have been multiple experienced tutors including; Jimmy Rainey, John Dierckx, and Natalie Elms who come in during our practices to enhance and develop our musicianship and technical skills in jazz. Each group had great success in the Jazz Quest competition at Ara this year where all awards were given to members of the SMP jazz program. Many students in SMP Jazz are involved in other ensembles such as Funk band and Big Band. We were lucky enough to be able to record some of our pieces in a studio this year and experience new and exciting things around recording in groups. One of my favourite memories this year was the end of year gala where each group performed a few songs at The Rolling Stone. It was amazing to see the development of each group.
