Canoe Polo 2018

Mr C Johnston —

Three teams played in the weekly canoe polo league, held at Lake Roto Kohatu each Wednesday afternoon during Term 1 & 4.

A bit about the game: Canoe Polo is a game of two halves of 10 minutes where two teams of five players battle it out with a canoe polo ball. The aim is to score by throwing the ball into a goal, suspended above the water at each end of a rectangular pitch. Canoe polo combines canoeing and ball handling skills with an exciting contact team game, where tactics and positional play are as important as the speed and fitness of the individual players.

This year numerous players have progressed their canoe polo ability through competing in the weekly schools' league and attending the training sessions run by our two coaches at the Christ College pool. For 2019 the aim is to build numbers back up and take teams away to Oamaru for the annual South Island Secondary Championships in August.
