Burnside High School's Junior Concert Band is comprised of around 50 of the year 9 and 10 performance music courses brass and wind and percussion players.
We meet once a week in one of the performance music class periods, which are dedicated to the various junior ensembles. For many members, this band is the first time they play in a large group, and some are even new to the instruments they are playing in the group.
The Band has three performances a year, the Northwest Festival, the Christchurch Concert Band Competition where they were awarded a bronze award and finally the Junior Showcase where in addition to playing two of their own pieces, they combine with the Junior Strings for one piece, forming the Junior Orchestra.
A massive thank you to Helen Renaud for her amazing work with the group. It has been great to come back to the band this year as a student conductor.
