Entertainment and Event Operations Qualifications

Richard Wiltshire —

Nic Ryan 13CHL and Matthew Graham 11NLNC recently attended a weekend workshop held at the Theatre Royal as part of their assessment for the NCEA Entertainment and Event Operations Level 3 course.

This new qualification is set to become a foundation requirement for operating in many entertainment and event workplaces, and leads to apprenticeship technical courses at Level 4 and eventually higher courses to Levels 5 and 6. The 45 credit course requires theory and practical experience in event operation, and must be worked on outside of school hours.

Burnside High was the first school in New Zealand able to enroll its students with Skills Active, in 2019, and the cost of the course is covered by the School’s Gateway Programme. Nic and Matthew are being assessed by Mr Wiltshire, the Aurora Centre Operations Manager, who is a Skills Active assessor.
