SISS Rugby 7's
The South Island Secondary Schools' Rugby Sevens Championships took place in Fairlie on Saturday 28 October.
After a strong winter rugby season, it was awesome to have an U16 Boys team entered into this competition. This is the first time in a number of years that we have been able to field a team.
The team coached by Kieran Manawatu and Mr Lloyd departed Burnside High School bright and early at 6.30am to head to Fairlie. The early start was rewarded with a beautiful day in Fairlie.
It was the team's first experience of Seven's and most of the boys would admit that it was a steep learning curve. Despite looking very much like rugby, the pace and structure of the Seven's game is quite different. While the team only managed one win out of five games, they improved with every game and gave a couple of the more experienced teams a fright when they pushed them harder than the other team expected. We look to forward to entering a team in the championship next year.
A big thank you all the parents who transported and supported the players at this tournament.
