Summer Tournament Week 2022

Sports Office —

Despite Covid disrupting yet another NZ Secondary Schools Summer Tournament Week, we were lucky to still have teams competing in modified events during the week, Monday 28 March - Saturday 02 April.

**NZ Secondary Schools' Open Water Swimming**

Alex Gibson 9WPEC represented Burnside High School at the NZSS Open Water Swimming event at Mt Maunganui, where he placed 2nd in the Male 500m - 12-13 years and 4th in the Male 1250m - 12-13 years. Great work Alex!

**Canterbury Water Polo Festival**

Well done to our Senior Boys Water Polo Team who had a 4th placing at this event.

**Volleyball Satellite Tournament**

Unfortunately the NZ Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships were cancelled this year, but a satellite tournament was held here in Christchurch instead. All the Volleyballers had a great tournament and there were some fantastic results.

The Senior Girls C team won Division 3;The Senior Girls B team came 8th in Division 1;The Senior Boys B came 2nd in Division 2;And the Senior Boys A team won Division 1.
Congratulations to all the teams - nice work!

**Maadi Cup (NZSS) Rowing**

This regatta was modified to allow for the covid regulations, which meant that our U15 Rowers and Novices were unable to compete. This modification combined with the covid surge in Canterbury meant a squad of 33 dropped to just 13 rowers. This was a very different regatta for most of the squad with the effects of covid necessitating last minute crew and entry changes. Despite this adversity the crews all put in amazing performances, and this was evident in the number of PB's, B Finals and A Finals they qualified for. Congratulations team - you should all be very proud of your efforts. Thank you to all the parent help who supported the crew over the very busy week in Twizel. Look out for a full round up of their season in the Term 1 newsletter.
