Sport Climbing
This year we had Sport Climbing offered as a lunchtime club in Terms 1 and 3, with expert coaching offered by ex-student, Cirrus Tan. Also, two teams competed in the South Island Secondary Schools' Climbing competition at the YMCA Adventure Centre, Christchurch (photos below).
SISS Climbing Championships:
Eight talented climbers from Burnside competed in September in the South Island Secondary Schools Climbing Championships. The two Burnside teams did extremely well on the demanding climbs, with the White team gaining 444 points and the Green team 649. It was a busy two days competing against 22 other teams and also very tight time frames, with each climber having to do 36 climbs, so a challenging but very enjoyable event ! Thanks to Cirrus for her surprise visit of support, taking photos (below) and for all her climbing help and to Mrs Taylor for organising the teams. The two teams were:
Green team: Simone Blakie, Joran Le Quellec, Ben Petrie and Sue Petrie.
White team: Anna Christensen, Tim Currey, Isolde Johnson and Andrew Rider.
Special thanks to parent managers: Tony Rider, Isabelle Le Quellec and Tjun Theng - without your help supervising, the teams would not have been able to compete.

Climbing Club - Terms 1 and 3:
For each of these two terms, 12 climbers took part in learning the skills of Sport Climbing, under the expert instructions from ex-student and experienced Sport Climber, Cirrus Tan. The students enjoyed their hour-long sessions with cirrus once a week and hopefully she can provide training again next year.
