Zonta Awards

Sports Office —

Burnside High School had four Zonta finalists in 2022.

The Zonta Sports Awards are run by the Zonta Club of Christchurch South and Sport Canterbury, and recognise high school students sporting excellence across six categories.

Burnside High School is always well-represented in these awards, and this year was no exception with all four of our finalists being acknowledged by the judges.

  • Paris Chin 13PZS won Category Four (for the most outstanding individual achievement by a young sportswoman and a young sportsman specialising in one sport) for competing at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games as a member of the New Zealand Rhythmic Gymnastics team.
  • Kai Shields 13OYL was Highly Commended in Category Two (for contribution to sports administration by a young woman and a young man in a position of umpire, referee, coach or tutor) for his work with and dedication to the Burnside High School Basketball Programme.
  • Taylah Holdem 13SFK and Rosa Vesty 13HLK were Highly Commended in Category Five (for the most outstanding team of young sportswomen and sportsmen or mixed team) for competing at the U19 Beach Volleyball World Championships.
