The South Island Secondary Schools Rock Climbing took place at the YMCA Adventure Centre in Waltham on Thursday 31 August and Friday 01 September.

The three Burnside High School Mixed Teams all competed extremely well taking out 1st, 3rd and 4th places in the Mixed Championship.  The team that came first was also second in the overall competition, coming second by only 10 points behind a team from Shirley Boys High School.

The teams were:

1st Place - Sue Petrie 13PZS, George Darnbrough 12SBUC, Frank Roberts 12SCPA and Joran Le Quellec 13SRT;

3rd Place - Corey Griffiths 10WJCN, Charlie Helmore 10NRSS, Daniel Grounds 10WDNK,  Sopie van der Krabben 10NYSA (climbed Thursday) and Julia Mitchell 10SCTH (climbed Friday);

4th Place - Jai Bartlett 13BGS, Karen Jorgenson 13GVK, Daniel Bristow 13MTR and Beck Faloon-Cavander 12SKNG.

The team that placed fourth did extremely well to catch the leading group, after illness meant that they climbed with only three climbers on the first day before Beck joined the team on Friday to replace the sick climber.
