Road Cycling CSS Competition

Sports Office —

Unfortunately once again this year, our Burnside High School Cycling Team was again smaller than in other years.

The Road Cycling team consisted of Tim Currey and Corey Griffiths.  Sadly both Tim and Corey's seasons were disrupted by Covid, meaning they both missed a number of weeks of riding.

As in other years the Canterbury Secondary Schools competition took place out on Old Tai Tapu Road, with the Canterbury Secondary Schools Championships taking place as part of the weekly riding. Due to New Zealand's covid traffic light settings at the time, the riding started later in Term 2 and continued further into Term 3 than normal.

Only having two riders in different age groups made it a little bit difficult for Tim and Corey when it came to the team trials but the organisers were great at finding them other solo riders to team up with. They both rode extremely well throughout the season, gaining some great racing experience against some of the most accomplished age group riders Canterbury has to offer.

If you have ever thought about giving road cycling a go, come along and join the team next year, we'd love to have you join us. The cycling takes place in Term 2 and Term 3 as part of the Wednesday Winter Sport programme.
