Mountain Biking

Sports Office —

Mountain Biking continues to grow in popularity at Burnside High School with a large number of students taking part in the Term 1 competition at the Halswell Quarry.

CSS Championships

After the disappointment of the Term 1 cancellations last year, it was great to get an (almost) full season of School Sport Canterbury Mountain Biking in this year.  The Canterbury Secondary School Cross Country Mountain Biking Competition took place at Halswell Quarry over 5 weeks in Term 1.  Thankfully the boys only lost one week of riding, despite the change to the Covid Alert Levels in early March.

The Canterbury Secondary Schools Cross Country Mountain Biking Championships was held on Wednesday 24 March at Halswell Quarry. All our riders rode really well on a very challenging course. Robbie Cochrane 11WRDS placed 2nd in the U16 Boys Grade.

SISS Championships

The South Island Secondary Schools Mountain Biking Championships took place at Mt Hutt/Methven, Friday 12 – Sunday 14 March. Burnside High School had five students riding at this event. It was a great three days of racing, and again Robbie featured in the top ten, placing 6th in both the Cross Country and Enduro events.

NZ Open Championships

Congratulations to Robbie who also won the Under 17 Boys Grade in the NZ Open Downhill (Mountain Biking) competition on Sunday 21 February.

NZSS Championships

Unfortunately due to the covid alert level change in Term 3, the 2021 NZ Secondary Schools Championships were cancelled.
