Burnside High School- Japanese Dance Daiken Cup Winners.
Matthew Crosby - July 6, 2017
The day started off with an inspirational speech from internet marketing pioneer Mr Tim Williams, on his encounters and experiences in Japan and the benefits of studying Japanese and what types of employment in can lead to in this modern changing world. The secondary school students had three intensive language sessions, run by Canterbury Japanese secondary school teachers and tertiary educators.
One of the highlights for the Burnside High School students was winning the Daiken Cup for the best Japanese dance video.
Schools had to submit a video of their students doing the koi dance. The students had put a lot of effort into mastering the complex moves and were ecstatic to be named the first Daiken Cup winners. Overall, the day was a huge success. A special mention must go out to Masayoshi Ogino from the Canterbury of University, for his tireless effort in promoting Japanese language and culture and making this an enjoyable day for all.
