Athletics SISS Championships

Burnside High School —

Congratulations to Olivia Watt 11SCTH who won the Under 16 Pole Vault title at the South Island Secondary Schools Athletics Championships held at Nga Puna Wai on Friday 9 & Saturday 10 April.

Well done to the whole team, who all competed extremely well with a number of Personal Bests and Top 6 finishes achieved in some very testing weather conditions.

Along with the Olivia's title, the following students placed in their events:

2nd

  • Ayla Ryan 10NMDA - U16 Girls Pole Vault
  • George Taylor-Carson 9NSTK - U14 Boys High Jump
  • Charlotte Lambie 12NCHB - U19 Girls Hammer Throw
  • Theo Walker 12NCGR - U19 Boys 3000m
  • Liam Hill 12SSHR - U19 300m Hurdles
  • Ocean Faloon-Cavander 13PZS - Open Steeplechase

3rd

  • Grace Thomson 13OLK - Under 19 Girls 100m Hurdles
  • Vincent Chen 13SRT - Under 19 Boys Pole Vault

Special mention also to our 4 x 400 Boys relay team who competed in the Under 19 grade. The team was led by Liam Hill 12SSHR who was the only U19 competitor in the team. The other team members were Will Knight 12SHGR (U16), Cody Johnson 11WBET (U15) and our young Hugo Feng 9SPHC who is still U14. They finished 6th in a very credible performance.

Unfortunately the Covid Delta outbreak necessitated the cancellation of the 2021 New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Championship. This was to be have been held in December in Inglewood, Taranaki.
