National Finalist: International Geography Olympiad Competition (iGeo)

Donna Lee —

Congratulations to E Wen Wong (12 WTA) who has secured a place in the New Zealand final of the annual iGeo competition. This selection round will be hosted at Wellington Girls' College on the nineteenth of October.

If successful, E Wen will have the opportunity to represent New Zealand at the 17th International Geography Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey. This takes place during August 2020. In each national team of four, the best 16 - 19 year-old Geography students from all over the world participate in this annual competition.

The iGeo event consists of three parts: a written test, a multimedia test and a substantial field work exercise. The competition also includes scientific poster presentations by teams, cultural exchanges, and time for students to get to know their fellow students and explore the host city.

'Istanbul has an enchanting location spreading over two continents. Istanbul also represents the unique feature of Turkey for serving as a bridge between different cultures. This feature will be the major asset of the 2020 17th iGeo in bringing together the young geographers'. Prof. Dr. Barbaros Gönençgil

Best of luck for the national selection competition E Wen!!
