Dance NZ Made Regionals

The list of achievements from Burnside at Dance NZ Made CHCH regionals is a long one!

On Monday evening this week our team of x22 soloists and x5 duos set out to compete against 110 acts from around Christchurch. It took a whopping five hours to get through all the performances, but our dancers all did us proud, regardless of how the results turned out. They shone bright on the stage repping BHS Dance and ALL gave stellar performances.

Year 9 solo- Millie Nicholls 1st
Year 10 solo- Hamish Giddens 3rd
Year 11 solo- Grace Wakefield 3rd
Year 12 solo- Molly Brown 1st - Lily Demouth 3rd
Year 13 solo- Annelise Tan 1st -Jungmin Jo 3rd
Year 9/ 10 Duo- Millie Nicholls + Dylan O'Keffe 1st
Year 11-13 Duo- Annelise Tan + Natalie Wu 1st
Open Duo- Sienna Odams +Kaia Turner 1st
Overall Highest scoring duo of the night- Millie Nicholls and Dylan O'Keffe

Then on Tuesday during the day the students attended workshops held by the judges and auditioned for 'Golden Tickets.' This year x10 students of ours auditioned and were given places at this competition which has $10,000 to give away to 10 luckey dancers. These dancers are:

And finally, on Tuesday evening was team night. There were x30 teams from other CHCH schools and we had x5 entered into this section of the competition. Our teams are all members of the new Performance Academy here at Burnside, for those students who wish to specialise in their love of performance. It is predominantly student-led and gives senior students a chance to explore and enhance their choreographic skills.

Year 9/10 Team
- 'Lullaby' Jnr Contemporary team: Choreography by Maia Jefferson and Molly Brown 1st
 -'Defiant' Jnr Hip Hop team: Choreography by Kaia Turner and Sienna Odams 3rd 

Year 11/13 team
- 'One Five One' Snr Hip Hop: Choreography by Chloe Wright 1st
 -'No time' Snr Contemporary: Choreography by Jungmin Jo and Annelise Tan 3rd 

Open Team
- 'Winter morning' Open Contemporary: Choreography by Talia Ellis 1st Also the winner of the overall Choreographic award for a perfect score

Overall Top scoring Team: 'Winter morning' 1st 'Lullaby' + 'One Five One' tied for 2nd And congratulations to all of you who read that long list all the way to the end. 

They are some of the most talented bunch of kids on the planet, and we are very proud of them all.
