Burnside Powerlifters

Ruth Knights —

Burnside students achieve great results at local regional powerlifting championships.

On the 23rd of November Adyn Callaghan and Cameron Pearce competed at the Mainland Unified Powerlifting Championships at the Canterbury Sports Performance Centre.  The sport of powerlifting involves completing three strength lifts; a back squat, a bench press and a deadlift. Lifters have three attempts at each lift and the highest attempt at each is combined for a total and placing.

Adyn placed 2nd in the under 69kg Male youth class with a 285kg total including a 90kg squat, a 55kg bench, and a 140kg deadlift and Cameron placed first in the same category with a 372 total including a 130kg squat, an 82kg bench, and a 160kg deadlift.

Cameron's total not only qualifies him to compete at Nationals but also meets the international qualifying standard of 370. This is amazing for a young novice lifter!

Congratulations to both of these students.
