World Vision Success for BHS
World Vision brought together principals, teachers, students and parents from schools around the South Island to celebrate all that was done for the children of Syria in the 40 Hour Famine of 2017.
Burnside High School did an incredible job with this year’s 40 Hour Famine, and were invited to attend the 2017 Awards Evening held in Christchurch and hosted by Hillview Christian School. It was an exciting evening attended by Miss Tran, Mrs Moreno, and four Year 13 leaders - Amy Rodley, Charlotte Rodley, Ashton Williams-Dallow and Anna Welham - all of whom demonstrated incredible leadership throughout the 2017 fundraising campaign.
With a range of different awards, items and guest speakers throughout the evening, Burnside High School received the award of ‘Outstanding Fundraising Effort’ having raised $12,128!
What made this grand total so significant was knowing the difference that it will make to Syrian refugees in the months to come. This incredible effort will fund four ‘child-friendly spaces’ in refugee camps in Jordan. These spaces are set up specifically for children following a conflict. They enable children to be children again, and are a space where kids can play, continue their education and receive psychological support from trained professionals who help the children work through their trauma.
Congratulations to all of the BHS students who participated in the 40 Hour Famine this year, and take great pride in the service that you have given to others.
