Badminton SISS Success!

Karen Warnock —

A great weekend competing at the South Island Secondary Schools Badminton Tournament in Dunedin!

Over the weekend of 17 and 18 June, 15 Burnside High students travelled to Dunedin for the South Island Secondary Schools Badminton Tournament. Two boys teams were entered and one girls team, competing against several other schools from around the South Island.

The BHS Boys 1 team included Alex Huang, 10SCTH, Baxter Lin, 12SBUC, Linus Ling, 12SCPA, Justin Loh, 12SKNG and Jason Zhang 9SHTR.

The BHS Boys 2 team included Adam Talhah, 11WTNH, Joshua Ting, 12NWLC, Alvin Wei, 10SCTH, Jayden Wong, 10NSYA and Kevin Zhang, 10SCTH.

The BHS Girls team included Sarah Chew, 12NLNC, Joelle Chiong, 12NJVC, Penny Fan, 12SBYS, Maggie Lin, 13CUC, and Keisha Wong, 12NLNC.

All students played well, with some very competitive and challenging games. It is exciting to see so much talent in students that have many years to represent Burnside ahead of them.

The BHS Boys 1 team won the competition, securing the shield for the second year in a row. Our BHS Girls team came third overall, an outstanding achievement given the talent at the tournament.

The students were a credit to the school both on and off the court, and we look forward to seeing the future achievements of these highly talented players!
