For the third year in a row, our 'A' Team are the NZ Secondary Schools' Teams Boys A Grade Champions. Notably this year our 'A' team were a Mixed team!

Congratulations to: Sang-Yong Park, Jiayi Zhou and Avon Liu, who were the 'A Mixed Team' at this year's NZ Secondary Schools Championships, held in Tauranga, over Winter Tournament Week (02-04 September). The other team who represented Burnside High at this tournament were our Boys B team, comprising of: Zak McKellar, Dan Jefferies and Vedang Gaikwad. This team finished in 5th place in the Boys A Grade Teams competition.

In the Individual Championships at this same tournament, the following students achieved these placings:

Boys U19 - 2nd place, Sang-Yong Park

Boys U19 - 3rd= place, Zak McKellar

Girls U19 - 1st place, Jiayi Zhou

Girls U19 - 2nd place, Avon Liu

In the Wednesday Canterbury Secondary Schools' competition at Table Tennis Stadium (Blenheim Rd), over Terms 2 and 3, we had seven teams competing (4 boys, 2 girls and 1 mixed) and the Mixed A team (of Sang-Yong, Jiayi, Avon, Zak and Dan) officially "lost" the final to Shirley Boys Gold, due to most of our players being away on a school trip and we couldn't field a team. We did try to play the final on another date, but dates suggested didn't suit Shirley Boys with upcoming mock exams happening at their school. 

We have some great up-and-coming junior players coming through the school, so Table Tennis continues to be strong at Burnside, with only Avon Liu leaving the school this year as a Year 13 student.

Sports Awards:

Congratulations to Sang-Yong Park, winning this year's 'Sportsman of the Year' title, and to the Mixed A Team (of Sang-Yong, Jiayi and Avon) winning the 'Team of the Year' title. Jiayi Zhou was a finalist in the Sportswoman of the Year category.
