STP - Secondary Tertiary Programmes

Jac Doogan —

Dual enrolment programmes that enable senior students to start on a career pathway while still at school.

Applications have been going out thick and fast for next year's dual enrolled students. To date, twenty-six students have sent applications away for a variety of courses at Ara, National Trade Academy and Avon City Ford. Students will spend part of their week at Burnside High School and part of their week with their chosen tertiary provider. Credits gained at both school and tertiary count towards NCEA Level 2 and or 3.

The 2019 group of twenty-one students on an STP are all achieving well. Many have chosen full-time pre-trade courses for 2020, and their applications and interviews are underway for these pathways. The STP students have also participated in a range of extra activities. Eight have gained their Learner's Licence, four a Comprehensive First Aid Certificate, two completed a Scaffolding Course, two gained their Restricted Driver's Licence, and one is currently attending Defensive Driving lessons. In the holidays two students will complete a barista coffee making course.
