Tech Crew

Emma Bennet —

It has been a difficult year for the crew with lockdown and Covid restrictions which caused the majority of school and the Aurora Centre bookings to be cancelled.

Thankfully though, we managed to have several weekend training sessions where our junior and new crew got to learn and bond together.

We had several students crew senior drama assessments as part of the Gateway course of Level 3 Entertainment Event and Operations. These assessments managed to sell out the shows and went very smoothly, allowing our gateway students to sign off and complete their practical assessments. They also had one or two opportunities to be involved in small shows earlier in the year, some being involved in Kidsfest holiday programmes which required Tech Crew personnel.

We also ran the tech for the School’s entry to Showquest competition earlier in the year which was won by us but sadly we didn’t win any awards for tech. But there is always next year as we have a very strong senior crew many of whom will be Year 13 next year.

Sadly, there were almost no outside gigs for the Aurora Centre and for Tech Crew who normally help to set up and run the Spring Festival and school events occurring in the Aurora. This meant that our new members to Tech Crew this year had no chance to crew and run a show, but we hope that next year can be better and so these junior crew can learn from active experience.
